350 In A Honda?

Q. Hi, I live in Elmira, New York and have a question about an idea that I have. I have a 350 V-8 5.7 liter engine from a 1978 Malibu. The car was in bad shape so me and my dad scrapped it but kept the engine. My dad is a well respected mechanic in Elmira and he doesn't find my idea possible.

I want to buy a newer car, such as a Honda Prelude or a Chevy Cavalier and put this engine in it. My dad says this is not possible due to a problem with the fuel injection that newer cars have. He says to put this motor in a car the car would have to be below a 1983. I am writing to get a second opinion and see if there is any possibilities for my idea. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you.

Sincerely,
Marty

A. I'm with your Dad on this one. Electronics aside for a moment, it just plain won't fit. If you use the engine you have to use the transmission. Both cars you mentioned are front wheel drive and the engine is for a rear wheel drive. Even if you could squeeze the engine in, you'd have to install a rear wheel drive axle. I won't even talk about drive shafts.

Such things are possible. I used to put Chevy 350's into Datsun 240 and 260-Z's, but they were rear wheel drive and there was room for the engine. What you're thinking is just not feasible.
