Dodge 3.9 V-6 Has No Oil Pressure?
Q. Hello there, What could be the cause of a sudden loss of oil pressure in my 1987 Dodge 3.9 liter V-6 engine? I am installing a new oil pump, and am wondering if there is anything else I can look at. Gaskets seem good, some talk of a oil sending unit, but I can't find it! My book doesn't show it.
Thanks for any assistance.
DaveA. Before I go ahead and replace the oil pump, I would put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the engine to be sure there is, indeed, low or no oil pressure.
If there is low or no oil pressure, it could be the oil pump, but if the engine has a lot of miles on it, you may have bad bearings or other internal engine components.
The Oil Pressure Switch (OPS) is in the rear of the engine, near the distributor. Next time tell me what the engine is in. It will save me so much time looking up 18 different models of Chrysler trucks trying to find the correct information.
