Chevy S-10 Persistent Ticking Noise

Q. Hello there. I have a question I sure hope you can help. I have a Chevy S-10 Pickup, 2.5 liter "E" engine. I have had a lot of tick to the engine. I replaced the head, the lifters, the push rods and the rocker arms and still I have the tick. It is pretty loud. The truck runs good other then the loud tick. I have no idea what it could be, and also a few mechanics that I took it to have no idea either. Hopefully you can tell me what it might be.

Thank you very much,
Tom

Chevy S-10 Persistent Ticking Noise

A. Well, without actually hearing this noise, it would be strictly a guess. Has anyone used a stethoscope or a piece of garden hose in looking for this noise? It could be a loose timing chain, cracked flywheel, main or rod bearings, loose valve adjustment, heck, anything that's moving or spinning is suspect. This is why you need to do some real careful listening to determine where it's loudest and go from there.
