Questions and Answers

A/C Certifications

Q. I work at a dealership service department. Some technicians are certified by the state for air conditioning service, others have a federal certification. My question is, does the federal certification supersede the state certification, or would these technicians have to become state certified as well??

A. If your state requires certification, then I would suggest that they get the certification form the state. The federal certification is standard with all states and covers technicians in states that do not require it. Since state requirements differ from state to state, and in many cases goes beyond federal requirements, it would be to their advantage to get both certifications.
