Ciera Dies On The Highway

Q. Hello Vince, I searched the forum threads and can't find anything posted pertaining to my particular problem. 1995 Olds Cutlass Ciera 4 door,195,000 miles, automatic transmission 3.1 litre V-6 fuel injected, A/C, P/S, P/B, P/W, Rack and pinion, cruise control.

The engine starts and runs excellent until the car has been driven approximately 20 miles at 60 mph at which point it dies as if the ignition was turned off. No engine missing, warning lights on or erratic running up to that point. However, when it does die the warning lights all come on and they go off as soon as it restarts.

When it shuts off it'll restart by shifting to neutral and turning the ignition key to the start position again or by pulling to the shoulder and restarting. The car will again run good about 20 or so miles and die again. I have changed oil and filter, replaced the fuel pump, fuel and air filters as well as checked battery and starter connections and engine ground connections and tapped on the MAF sensor.

Could it possibly be a bad fuel pump relay, closing and re-opening when the ignition is re-activated? I see five relays on the passengers right front, attached to the radiator support, is the pump relay there and if so which one is it? I'm at a loss solving this problem. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks....

A. You need to know what's missing when it won't start. Fuel or spark? My guess would be the ignition module is heating up. Could also be the ECM.
