Jeep Grand Cherokee 2-3 Slip
Q. Hi, I hope that you might help to guide me. I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4WD, automatic transmission, 6 cylinder, miles are about 150,000. On it shifting from second to third the rpms run up because of the delay on shifting. Driving down the road, it may be at any speed, it will slip from second to third to second gear for no reason. I have had the transmission fluid and filer changed.
A mechanic suggested the problem being a throttle position sensor, do you think this may be possible? It's certainly dangerous, and at times, difficult to get up to speed.
Thank you for your help,
BrendaA. There are a number of causes for the second to third gear slip. At this milage, I think it's very likely the clutch packs inside the transmission are just worn out.
With any Chrysler transmission I always recommend using the Chrysler ATF from a Chrysler dealer. Many times it makes a big difference.
