Nissan 240SX Won't Start

Q. Hello I have a 1993 Nissan 240SX coupe with a Nissan Twin Cam 16 valve engine and a manual 5 speed transmission. I have no idea what the milage is on the car because the it has an electric speedometer and it is also not working. It has a fuel Injection system.

When we bought the car it was not running and was thought to have a bad distributor so we replaced it with a new one and still wasn't getting any fire to the plugs. So we went to the coil and I tested it on my 1990 Nissan 240SX and I cranked it with the coil so it's not the coil. I was told to check and see it I was getting power in and out of the coil and I am, but I am not getting any fire to the plugs.

I read in book that when you turn on the key the check engine light was supposed to come on and it was not so I got a new computer for the car and now the check engine light comes on but still no fire to the plugs. I went out and got a popular mechanics CD-ROM just for my make and model car and I have done all the test to the car that it has on it and I still am not getting any fire to the plugs. if there is any way you can help me with this PLEASE!

Thank you...

A. I strongly suspect the Crank Angle Sensor inside the distributor. Here's how to test it:

  1. Remove the crank angle sensor from the engine.

  2. Disconnect all of the ignition wires from the distributor cap and turn the ignition switch ON.

  3. Using a volt meter, check voltage between terminal 1 and ground while rotating it slowly. Voltage should fluctuate between 0 and 5 VDC.

  4. Using a volt meter, check voltage between terminal 2 and ground while rotating it slowly. Voltage should fluctuate between 0 and 5 VDC. Replace the sensor if it fails the above test. NOTE: This test may set Code 11. Be sure to clear the ECU 's memory after repairs are finished.
