Setting Jeep Cherokee Timing

Q. Dear Sir, Could you example how to time an 1996 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0 liter, 6 cylinder, standard transmission, A/C, without the DRB or Snap- on Computer.

Thanks,
David

Setting Jeep Cherokee Timing

A. From the Chrysler Service Manual:

Ignition Timing:

Base (initial) ignition timing is NOT adjustable. Do not attempt to adjust ignition timing by rotating the distributor.

Do not attempt to modify the distributor housing to get distributor rotation. Distributor position will have no effect on ignition timing.

All ignition timing functions are controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). For additional information, refer to the appropriate Powertrain Diagnostics Procedures for operation of the DRB Scan Tool.
