Too Much Oil

Q. Will overfilling the oil in a 1996 Toyota Tercel cause the engine seals to leak? Please help

A. Too much oil could cause seals to leak. But I would be more concerned about engine damage. Too much oil will raise the level in the oil pan and the crankshaft will hit the oil and cause it to foam up. This foam will be drawn through the engine and cause accelerated wear to the bearings.

Most engines will tolerate ½ to 1 quart overfill, but the best thing is to keep it at the level specified on the dipstick.
