Plymouth Caravelle DTC 34
Q. Hi Vince, I e-mailed u several times about problems with my Caravelle. A new problem is occurring! It's a 1987 Plymouth Caravelle, 2.2 liter turbo engine, is equipped with cruise control, A/C, and has 153,000 miles on it. When I have the A/C on I hear a loud squealing type noise that seems to be coming from the dash area underneath the glove compartment.
It might be further up than that but I can't really tell! It gets so loud at times I have to turn the A/C off! However, this does not affect the operation of the A/C. I turned the heater on to see if it does the same thing and it does!
Also, I had the problem of the idling flaring up, especially when you come to a red light. I replaced the map sensor, the vacuum hose to the MAP Sensor, vacuum lines on the intake manifold, and coolant temperature sensor. Doing this has not corrected the problem thus far. For months now I have had code 34 show up a few times.
One time it went two weeks without showing up again. At the present time it is showing up. What is code 34 and could this be causing my idling problem??? Hope you can help out. Thanks for your time!

Wellsburg, WVA. The noise is probably coming from the Aspirator Fan. The aspirator is located on the rear surface of the blower motor housing. It has a sensor incorporated into it that measures cabin temperature and helps adjust the HVAC output accordingly.
Code 34 indicates a fault in the Speed Control Servo Circuit. The code is set if the servo does not turn on and off when it should. Since the cruise control is vacuum operated, I would carefully check all the vacuum lines for the cruise control system.
If there is a vacuum leak, it would effect your idle speed.
