Jiffy Lube Strikes Again

Q. I have a 1995 (it has been in the family from day one), Chevrolet Lumina V-6, 3.1, automatic transmission with about 46,000 miles. I changed the lower and upper radiator hoses just because of age, no other reason. The hoses were not changed out at the same time. I changed the lower hose after the oil change.

Problem: The motor oil has been normal until recently when I had the oil changed at a Jiffy Lube. Two weeks after the oil change the oil appeared to be milky colored. Took car back and had the oil changed out. The manager was apologetic and said they never had water in their oil, yet he had the oil changed and filter replaced at no cost and informed me that the new oil would not eliminate all the water in the system. The oil change was at no cost!??? (I'm suspicious!) I planned on watching to see what happens to the oil this time. Any ideas or recommendations?

Thanks in advance,
Roy

A. If I were you, I would be doing 1,000 mile oil changes for the next 5,000 miles to be absolutely sure there is no water in the crank case. And have your regular mechanic do it, not the "J" Team.

Of course Jiffy Lube had nothing to do with it. It was pure coincidence that you got water mixed with your oil after leaving their place. And they gave you a free oil change just because they are nice people and really like you.

If you want to read more about these oil change places, read my article Bargain Oil Changes and read about a real horror story.
