Pontiac Grand AM No Start, Blows Fuses

Q. I have a 1995 Pontiac Grand AM GT Coupe 3.1 liter engine, automatic transmission, fuel injection, ABS, P/S, A/C, cruise control and 121,946 miles. My problem is about one and half weeks. ago, it just shut down while I was traveling down the road. First I thought it was a short, as it sounded like the power windows and locks were trying to work when I touched the battery cables.

Pontiac Grand AM No Start, Blows Fuses

The battery is brand new. I cleaned the terminals, and tried to start it, nothing. It sounds like it wants to start but only cranks. A friend of mine said maybe it was the crank sensor, so we replaced that today. We tried to start it and it almost did, but blew a fuse. We replaced the fuse, tried again, and it blew again.

So he called his boss and now they think it's the control module. That's an expensive part around here, so I am writing to you for suggestions on what it might be other than that, before we do it and maybe that's not the problem. I'd like to start small if possible.

Thank you for your time. This car is beginning to be more of a problem every week.

Karen

A. It could be lots of things. What fuse is blowing? Why is it blowing? This is not normal for fuses to blow. Whatever is on that circuit is shorted and causing fuse to blow and may be part or all of your problem!
