Ford Code 332
Q. I have a "check engine" light that continues to give me troubles, especially at speeds over 45 mph, but sometimes at 20 mph. Once it comes on, it usually stays on. If I shut the engine off, the light will go out and usually stay out for 15-30 minutes, but then comes on again.
I bought a code reader and retrieved several EGR related codes. One was high/low voltage, so after checking the position sensor output, I replaced the DP type transmitter, Ford part #9J459. I then discovered that the EGR tube was broken, so I replaced it with Ford part #9D477. I checked the EGR valve during idle with a hand vacuum pump and everything appears normal.
During the key-on/engine-running test, the vacuum to the EGR valve appears when it should and the EGR valve opens, i.e. the idle speed changes, etc. I still get the check engine light and code 332, which indicates no EGR flow. I checked the DP lines and they are clear. I checked the DP transmitter output voltage signal at idle and it is 0.6 volts and increases when the EGR valve is opened with the hand pump, like it should. Any suggestions? Could this be an electrical problem? Perhaps a bad relay?

AutomaticSincerely,
RickA. There was a TSB, number 96-23-4 dated 11/04/96, about this problem. From the TSB:
Detonation and/or Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination with DTCs 332, P1407, and/or P1408 may occur under normal driving conditions. This is due to carbon buildup in the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) groove of the intake manifold (throttle body base).
So basically you have to take the throttle body off, clean out the passages and put it back together with new gaskets.
