Slow Moving Windows
Q. I came across your Auto Repair site and had a question. I recently purchased a 1986 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 360 V-8. The driver side power window works fine, both up and down. With the exception of the rear window, the other windows roll down painfully slow and even more so when you bring them up.
I've heard that there may be some sort of cleaning you can do to the switch or something that will improve this, assuming it is not just the window motor itself. Any suggestions?

A. Assuming the motors are good, what you can try is cleaning the felt glass runs. Over time the get filled with dirt and other garbage. After you get them nice and clean, spray them generously with spray silicone. You should see quite a bit of improvement when you are done.
If you want, you can remove the door panels and clean and lube the window regulators. They get pretty gummed up over time as well.
