Hyundai Excel Has No Gears At All Q. I have a 1989 Hyundai Excel with a four speed manual transaxle. Recently I have been getting clutch related problems. My car just was not going into gear. Like an idiot I ignored the problem until it was to late. One day I just could not even feel the gears in my shift knob anymore. It's like there was no gears at all.

A few people I know that know a little bit about cars looked at it for me and said it was probably my clutch. But what I'm worried about is if it is my transaxle as well that's causing this problem?

A. If you hear grinding when you step on the clutch and go to put it gear, then yes, I would say it's a bad clutch. If you step on the clutch and it goes into gear and nothing happens, then I would say you have an internal problem with the transmission.
