Seville Oil Message

Q. Hi: I have a 1995 Cadillac, Sedan Deville. I've run up the milage to 88,160 miles. Starting last Thursday, I've been getting message from the information center: "Stop Engine, Low Oil Pressure." What do you think the problem could be, and if you think this is covered by my extended warranty?

I've noticed that my car was a little bumpier than before. I don't know if this is related. My last cadillac seemed to have this problem. I can't remember what they said about the problem (Struts?) but I ended up trading it in with this one because the repair was expensive and I did not have extended warranty for that car.

My warranty runs out in Sept. I like to have the car checked for any major possible problems because I just don't have money to buy a new car or pay for the expensive repair. Would you suggest where I should ask the dealer to check and see if there's possible problems occurring?

By the way, last summer they put a re-build AC compressor in my car. I did not like the re-build one because it is noisy (feel like I'm in the airplane if I don't turn the radio on). I don't know if this could be related. Would appreciate your prompt help.

Thanks,
Pam

A. When that light comes on, that's telling you that the oil pressure has dropped below safe levels. It can be caused by something as simple as low oil level or as serious as an oil pump going bad. In any case it would be wise to check into it as quickly as possible.

You can take the car into the dealer and they will give it a complete check and if any work is needed, they will be able to do it. Just explain the extended warranty is ready to expire and you want to make sure nothing major is needed while it is still under warranty.

The bumpy ride is probably being caused by the struts going bad. If they are starting to leak, it would be time to replace them.

There is no relation between the new A/C compressor and your oil light. The two are completely separate from each other.
