Toyota Celica Lost Its Spark For Life
Q. I have an 1985 Toyota Celica, 22RE engine, manual transmission, EFI. It has been running fine. The check engine light came on while driving it to work and the car quit. It will not start now. I checked plugs.cap, wires. There were some problems with them. I have replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor. I checked all fuses. They are okay. The coil seems to be fine. I am not getting spark from the coil. The engine will turnover but will not fire. Any Ideas?

A. The first thing you need to do is pull the codes from the computer. That will point you in the right direction to finding out what has failed.
How to Extract Codes
- Run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature, then stop engine.
- Ensure that battery voltage is at least 11 volts, throttle valve is fully closed, A/C is off and that transmission selector is in park or neutral. turn ignition switch on but do not start engine.
- Short terminals of check engine connector or service connector (depending on model) with suitable jumper wire.
- Diagnostic codes will be indicated by the number of flashes of the "check engine" lamp.
