Dodge Rear View Mirror
Q. Hi, My wife has refined the art of neatly cutting the mirror of our car as she departs the garage. This has resulted in 2 new mirrors mounted by our friendly Dodge dealer at the bargain price of $282 (each time). When this happened again about 2 months ago I was able to get a serviceable mirror through a local source but I'm now having a hard time removing the inside door panel to get at the mirror! I have removed the screws located next to the interior door handle, the one located in the "well" on the arm rest and the one at the left upper side of the door. However, the panel will still not come off and I'm afraid of exerting too much pressure and doing a lot more damage. Can you tell me if there is a special tool needed or am I missing something else?
Thanks for your help,
PerryA. Gee Perry, it seems like it would be cheaper to build a bigger garage for her.
You're on the right track here. Once all the screws are removed, the panel is held on with a series of plastic clips. There is a special door panel tool you can get to pop them off with, but a wide blade screwdriver will work almost as well.
What you do is slide the tool between the door panel and the door and slide it along until you feel the clip. Then pry the door panel off until the clip pops out of its hole. There's a bunch of them all around the door so you need to work your way around.
Now you are likely going to break some. It happens to all of us. You can get replacement clips at some parts store or the Dodge dealer. Just replace the broken ones. To put the panel back on, make sure the clips line up with the holes and bang them in.
And if your wife keeps breaking mirrors, we can figure out how to put a zipper in the door panel.
