Chrysler Cruise Control Problem

Q. Vince, I have a 2001 Chrysler Concorde with a small V-6 engine. (It has an automatic transmission, 45,000 miles, fuel injected, no ABS.) The cruise control is not working all the time. Sometimes after I start the car, I depress the button (on the steering wheel) to turn on the Cruise Control. The light, on the instrument cluster, will stay on about 2 seconds and then go off.

Chrysler Cruise Control Problem

You can not get it to stay on. Therefore can never set the cruise control. Also, the light will never go back on no matter how many times you depress the button, until you turn the car off and then back on. Then the same problem occurs. The cruise occasionally will work as designed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Steve

A. The OBD-II system on your car will store a code for a Cruise Control problem. It won't illuminate the MIL because it is not an emission related problem, but it will store a code. So, the first thing to do would be to pull the codes out of the computer.

The simple and sometimes most likely thing to check for is broken of disconnected vacuum lines or loose or dirty connectors. Also check the brake light switch. A mis-adjusted brake light switch will cause this problem too.
