Bronco II Fuel Pump Problem
Q. Hey I have a problem with my 1987 Ford Bronco II. I was out one night and I was driving around. I was in some ruts, nothing serious, when it just stopped running. I changed the fuel pump and later found out that was not the problem. The truck still turns over but no fuel is getting to the injectors.
I tried to reset the inertia switch but that doesn't help. I tried to check the relays but that doesn't help. I have hot wired the pump to the battery. It pumps fuel but will not start. When you turn the key the pump doesn't come on. I am at a loss on this one. What do you think that it is? Where does the wires that go to the fuel pump go to? They wouldn't go to the ignition would they? I appreciate any help that you could give me.
Thanks,
JimA. I'm going to guess you have the 2.9 liter V-6 in that truck and that you have a single fuel tank.
You have two fuel pumps in that truck. A low pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank and a high pressure fuel pump mounted on the frame.
Here is a wiring diagram. You'll have to trace the power from the starter to the pump and see where the problem is. It could be a bad fusible link, a bad high pressure fuel pump, bad inertia switch, bad fuel pump relay or and open in the wiring.
