Honda Emission Increase
Q. Hello, Vincent. I just took my car to inspection yesterday. Although it still passed, there is a significant increase in the HC, CO, and NOx, as compared with last year's result; especially on HC. My questions is what could be wrong for these numbers to go up sharply? And what need to be fixed before they will go even higher?
1987 Honda Accord LXi, FI, A/T.
From my Chilton Service Manual, I found a part called "Air Chamber", it is located inside the control box, and one end is connected to the EGR Valve with a #16 vacuum hose. However, when I go to the Honda Dealer and ask for this part, they said they never heard about this name. I also try to ask other Honda Dealers, but no luck. Do you know does Honda have a different name for this part? If possible, could you please provide the name and the part number????
Thanks,
KinA. I know what you are talking about. As far as I know, it's called an Air Chamber. I don't have any other name for it nor do I have a part number. I've also never seen one go bad. But, you can take it to the Honda Dealer and show it to the parts guys and maybe they can match it up with something. Also bring the manual with you so you can show them where it is.
As far as the increase in emissions, the first thing I would do is put in a new set of NGK spark plugs, a new fuel and air filter. 95% of the time this will cure the increase in emissions.
