Oldsmobile Silhouette Radio, Wipers Q. Hello! I have a 1991 Oldsmobile Silhouette. We just got the van (long story) and it has some major interior defects that I'm fine with, except the stereo. It is stock and works fine, except the tape deck works on double speed, making the artist sound like the Chipmunks. I'm wanting to either replace it as cheaply as possible or repair it.

My question, I cannot find ANYWHERE a list (if it exists) of compatible stereos etc. for this van. I found a stereo I liked on Ebay, an Oldsmobile Bose Delco, but being ignorant have no idea if this would be compatible with the van. The van "whines" a lot. I've been told to check the vacuum. Any thoughts? One other thing, the back wiper does not work. Is this most likely a "fuse" problem? Am I revealing the depth of my ignorance?

A. There's nothing wrong with ignorance, it's stupidity that is shameful.

2.Whine? A bad alternator can whine. If you unplug the two wire plug and the whine stops, it has bad diodes inside and needs to be replaced.

3.The owners manual should give you location of fuses. Check them. Most likely a switch or motor.

1. Stereo, go to a dealer and have them send it out for repair or exchange. OR replace with any radio. Most radio sales places have kits to install any radio in any dash.
