Questions and Answers

Automatic To Manual Trans.

Q. Hello Mr. Ciulla. My name is David. I have a 2001 Honda Accord Coupe with an automatic transmission. I was wondering if it is possible to have a manual transmission installed in the car? and about how much it would cost?

Thank you!

A. Well Dave, anything is possible. In your case it would be way more cost effective to trade your car in on a model with a manual transmission. You're going to spend about $8,000.00 just for the transmission alone. Then you'll need to install the clutch hydraulics and pedal assembles. Also the electronic controls in that car are set for an automatic transmission and a manual would throw all of that off. At the very least you'll need a new ECU since they are different for a manual and automatic transmission.

These are just some of the things that come to mind offhand. There are a number of other factors involved as well. Better to trade than rebuild the drive train.
