Ford F-150 Won't Run Below 50°
Q. My 1984 Ford F-150 has a 302, two barrel, standard shift. I replaced the engine a few month ago and did away with the air pump and EGR. My problem is when the outside temperature is approximately 50° or below, the truck does not want to run. I have a manual choke I use for about a ½ hour and when I take the choke the off, it acts like it's starved for gas. I don't know if this is a carburetor or electrical problem.
Thank you for your time...
A. I don't know what other modifications you did to the engine, but under normal circumstances I would think it's a bad Air Temperature Sensor (ATS) or a bad Coolant temperature Sensor (CTS).
I would also have the carburetor checked with a four gas emission analyzer to be sure the fuel mixture is correct.
