Getting A Vehicle History

Q. Hi! I just bought a 1998 Jeep Cherokee and I am wondering where I can find the vehicle history using the VIN. Are there any service out there who can look this information up for me?

From what I've been told, in some states (I'm in CA), selling a "salvaged" or flood-damaged vehicle is illegal; can this be found in a history using the VIN?

Thanks a lot,
Eric

A. A good place to get a vehicle history report ia at CarFax.com. It costs about $20.00 for a report but it's worth it to avoid a car that has been totaled for some reason or to check the actual milage on it.

It is not illegal to sell a salvaged or flood car, but it is to sell it without being told of the history. Most states have this information on the title of the car, but dishonest people will title a car in various states and it will lose this information.
