Cavalier Put's out Low Heat

Q. Vince, 1993 Chevy Cavalier 3.1 V-6, auto, A/C, power everything, 195,000 miles, runs great. Suddenly have low heat output at highway speeds. Plenty of heat at all other speeds. Fan blows fine, and lever opens heat door all the way, engine temperature seems fine, thermostat seems to work. What do I look for now?

Thank you in advance,
Ed

A. I would try a new thermostat first. The thermostat not only regulates engine temperature, it also regulates the speed of the coolant through the engine. If the coolant travels too fast, it won't pick up or dissipate heat efficiently. If the thermostat is opening too much. it will cause the condition you describe.

Try this first and let me know how you make out.
