Acura Wobbles But Don't Fall Down
Q. Hi! Vincent, I have a 1996 Acura Integra (82,000 miles, 1.8 L, manual, ABS). After many attempts to get out of icy snow and after driving over piles of icy snow and potholes in this winter, my steering wheel starts to wobble while I am driving. Do I need to do wheel alignment or balancing? Or something else can cause the problem?
Thank you. Have a happy new year!
Jo KimA. A Happy New Year to you too Jo.
If the wobble is at a slow speed, up to about 10 mph, you might have a bent rim or broken or slipped belts inside the tire. In this case you would need to replace the wheel or tire. If you have alloy wheels, the chances of a bent wheel are slim. Alloy wheels don't bend, they break.
If you get the wobble at a higher speed, say between 40 and 50 mph, then you probably lost a wheel weight and the tire is out of balance. A wheel balance will correct this problem.
In either case I would have the front end inspected for possible damage as well.
