F-150 Running Very Rich

Q. 1985 Ford F-150, 5.0 EFI, 3 speed/od, 2wd, 148,000. New distributer cap and rotor, wires, plugs. Timing chain and gears ten months ago (new), Timing okay and no codes. Engine running VERY RICH. A little rough in third and OD. No power in OD. Engine searches for idle. Sounds like a heart beat.

Thank you,
Jim

A. With an engine running rich as you say with no codes, then I would have to look at the fuel system. Either the fuel pressure is too high or the injectors are just dumping fuel into the engine. The first place to start is with a fuel pressure test. With the engine idling you should have only 28-38 psi of fuel pressure. Any more than that and you will have the problem you describe. If the fuel pressure is too high, then you probably have a bad fuel pressure regulator.
