Mazda 626 Power Window Regulator

Q. Hello Vincent, I hope you are able to email me some advice. I haven't been able to find the info I need. I have looked in a Haynes repair book in vain. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are looking at a 1988 Mazda 626. However, there are some issues with the power windows. As the car isn't ours we can't just take it into a garage for help, however we can look at the car were it is parked.

Mazda 626 Power Window Regulator

The driver side window will go down okay but it needs assistance on the way up. It seems to be off track. All of the other three windows will not go up or down. The fellow told us he thinks it needs a new main switch box on the drivers door, but he is not positive. We don't want to bite off a big hassle as it is an older vehicle.

Would you be able to give us some instructions on how to go about checking exactly what we need? The manual tells us how to take off the door panels, but it does not tell us what to look for when it comes to troubleshooting for our problem.

It would be very much appreciated if you could either email me some instructions or direct me to a site that can. Thank you Vincent for any help you may be able to provide.

Sincerely,
Jeannette

A. There were a number of problems with the design of the power window regulator in that year vehicle. Basically the repair involved a modified window regulator and rerouting the power window regulator hose.

The TSB is number 1507188 dated 11/30/1988 and titled "Window Regulator - Improper Operation". You can get a copy at your Mazda dealer and it will give you part numbers and procedures to make the repairs.
