4 Runner Running Poorly

Q. Dear Vincent, I recently purchased a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner Limited. It has 70,000 miles on it with automatic transmission. It is a 3.4 liter V-6 engine. I have some sort of missing which is very little but for my feeling is very enjoying.

This happens not all the time. The car can be in neutral or in stop position with transmission in drive position. I tried with all positions!

The rpm stays all the time on 600, so it does not show any changes. I had it recently with Toyota they scanned it and found no problem.

-Spark plugs are new and replaced with Bosch platinum.
-Wires are new.
-Air filter new and K&N quality.
-Oil is full Syntec Castrol and new.
-Transmission is flushed and new dexron.

I could not find any vacuum leaks just by looking. Do you have any idea to solve my problem?

Thank you very much,
Alex

A. First, I would have your dealer do a fuel injection cleaning service on the truck. What you describe could be caused by dirty injectors and this would clear it up.

Your engine should have had it's timing belt replaced at 60,000 miles. If the previous owner didn't have it done, do it now also. Check the alignment of the crankshaft pulley, it should be perfectly in line with the other pulleys. You can sight down the drive belts to check it yourself. I've seen a rash of these lately where the crankshaft pulley has "walked out" about a ¼ in. This in turn allows the timing belt pulley to "walk out" a corresponding amount. The end result being the crankshaft revolution sensor gets incorrect readings and drives you nuts without setting any codes.
