Third Brake Light

Q. I recently wrote to you concerning a problem I was having with the carb in my 1989 Honda Accord LX. I have another question for you concerning the rear high mount brake light. (If that is what you would call it) There is nothing wrong with the bulb or wiring. I was just wondering if there was a way to separate the whole part from the rear window. Some junk got stuck in there between the window and the plate covering the bulb. and I just need to clean it out and keep the light from being obstructed.

Thank you again for any help you can offer.

Sincerely,
Jack

A. There's a couple of ways those third lights get attached. Through the trunk, look under the package shelf for two nuts or bolts directly under the light fixture. Remove them and the light fixture will lift up and out.

If there is no mounting hardware look for two small plastic covers on the light fixture itself. Pop them off with a small screwdriver and there will be screws underneath. Take out the screws and the cover will come off.
