Roaring Honda Accord

Q. Vincent, I have the following vehicle.

  • 1989 Honda Accord DX
  • 4 Cylinder
  • Manual 5-speed transmission
  • 200,000+ miles
  • Carburetor
  • No ABS brakes
  • P/S - A/C - Cruise control
  • No Rack and pinion steering
Roaring Honda Accord

A few days ago I started hearing a "roaring" sound from the right front end of the vehicle. It would start around 40 mph, and become louder as the speed increased. Rotated the tires this morning and the "roar" still occurs from the right front end. Could this be the bearings going bad, and, if so, do I need to have the right and left repaired at the same time?

Thank you,
Bill

A. You eliminated the tire as a possible cause so you narrowed it down to the wheel bearings. You don't need to replace both sides although I would recommend you at least clean and repack the wheel bearings on the other side.

Other than that your plan is the way to go at this point.
