Dodge Dynasty Headlight Covers

Q. Hello again, Thank you again for helping my husband and myself with our Honda and Dodge. I just have a quick question for you about the Dodge Dynasty again. Again, it is a 1991 Dodge Dynasty 3.3 liter fuel injected V-6, 4 door. I just need to know if there is an easy way to take out the headlight covers, so they can be cleaned.

Because of them, they make my lights dim and make it harder to see at night. Also, they seem to be made of plastic. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again!
Karla

A. Welcome back Karla, always a pleasure to hear form you.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "headlight covers". If they are what I'm thinking of, basically a decorative cover over the headlights, then I would recommend removing them. I don't know of any state in which they are legal. The reason they are not legal is because of the very problem you are writing me around. They diminish the effectiveness of the headlights.

Since they may have been added after the car was purchased, and they are not stock, I have no idea how they are attached. I'm sorry I can't help you with this one. Your best bet would be to have a mechanic look at it and he will be able to see how they are attached.

I read a question from a lady about cleaning Dodge Headlight Covers. I am quite sure she was talking about the Lexan lens on her headlights, it is a problem on many cars, some worse than others, they become discolored and pitted which clouds them. Unfortunately in most modern cars the lens is integral to the reflectors, not removable. New ones cost $150.00 and up. I've tried everything to clean, my body shop made them sparkle using the finest 2000 grit wet sandpaper, elbow grease and rubbing compound.

The cost was $45.00, but Dodge quoted $150.00 to clean them or $365.00 to replace.

Hope this helps some.
Charlie W.
