Sentra Won't Stay Running
Q. I just recently picked up a Nissan for my daughter. When it has been running for about 10 minutes it shuts off and will not restart till you wait a while. It is a 1986 Nissan Sentra, automatic, 98,000, carb. That's all I no about it. I need some help. I want an Idea of what is wrong before I take it in for repair, don t want to get ripped off.
A. The most common problem that car had was the ignition module. It is a little black module that sits on the side of the distributor. 1986 was the last year that Nissan used it, In 1987 they went to a Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) inside the distributor. When the module got hot, it crapped out.
To confirm this, let the car run until it dies. Murphys Law dictates that now that you're waiting for it, it will run forever. Anyway, when it dies, pull a plug wire off and check for spark. If there is none, I would go for the ignition module.
