Ford Escort Blower Motor Quit Working

Q. I have a 1998 Ford Escort. The A/C blower has quit working. I feel cold air when I drive, but changing A/C air speed does nothing. I have replaced the blower motor but no such luck. Took a look at the 30 amp circuit breaker and it is fine. I am thinking of replacing the resistor next. I saw in another post your wrote something about the Thermal Limiter.

When I replace the resistor, will that be replaced too? Also, by looking at parts related to the blower, I found information on the blower motor switch and blower motor relay switch. Are these the same or different and do they relate to what I may need to do?

Thanks,
Joey

A. Let's assume for a moment that you do have power at the blue/white wire of the blower motor. If you ground the blue/black wire the blower motor should run. If it does then everything up to there is fine.

Then it's a matter of tracing the wires. If you have power up to the blue/black wire at the blower motor resistor, everything is fine up to there.

If you have power at the blue/black wire at the blower motor resistor but not at the blue/white, blue/red, blue, or blue/yellow wires, then the thermal limiter in the blower motor resistor assembly is burnt out. You will need to replace the blower motor resistor assembly.

If you don't have power to the blue/white wire of the blower motor, then you have a bad blower motor relay or a problem in the wiring.
