Manual To Power Steering
Q. Hello: I hope you may help me. I am looking for information. I want to replace my manual steering box with a power steering box. Do you know where I can find exchange parts number's or info as to what year salvage auto I need to find to acquire a steering box that I may use.
I also want to change from drums to disk brakes on the front of my 1958 Bel Air I have been told that late 60's early 70's spindles are a bolt in exchange. If you have any of this info please send it along.
Thank You,
TyroneA. I'll answer the easy one first. You can get a disc brake conversion kit for that car from Stainless Steel Brakes. The kits have everything you need to do the conversion from the master cylinder on down.
As for the power steering box, your best bet to get that information is at a salvage yard. they have interchange books that show what parts will fit what cars. I'm sure you're aware you'll need the power steering pump, mounting brackets and lines to go with the steering box as well.
