Ford Taurus: Timing Belt Or Chain? Q. Hi there, I'd like to know if this car, 1998 Ford Taurus 3.0 liter V-6 VIN "U", has a timing chain or belt? And what is the recommended replacement interval if it is a belt and if it is also a non-interference engine? This car that I would like to buy has 110,000 miles on it. Thanks...

A. The 1998 3.0 liter V-6 has a timing chain, which should be good for the life of the engine. This is an interference engine so if the chain should happen to break completely, highly unlikely, it would result in possibly severe engine damage.
