Chevrolet S10 Blazer Steering Column
Q. HI, hope you can help me, we have a fully loaded 1996 Chevrolet S10 Blazer 4x4, V-6 with Auto Transmission, ABS, P/S, A/C, Cruise control, tilt steering that has 150,000 miles on it. It recently sprung a leak in the heater core that requires dropping the steering wheel, and the dash that I did myself step-by-step using the Haynes manual.
Now my problem is when I put it back together, the steering wheel doesn't lock and I can't remove the key from the ignition. What went wrong? I've been over the steps again and again. Could you please tell me how I screwed up and how to fix it?
Thanks for the help,
TonyA. There is a lock solenoid on the column that when energized will allow the key to be removed. When you dropped the column you may have not seen it and the wires broke. Also may have a problem in the floor shifter. There is a cable from it to the column so the car must be in park to remove the key.
