Explorer: X or E?

Q. I just read your response to the location of the PCV valve on the 1998 SOHC Ford Explorer engine. I was probing the site hoping to find a vacuum diagram for the engine. On my SOHC 1998 Explorer, the PCV valve is on the back of the block under the plastic intake cover.

Is there different locations for the "E" and "X" VIN codes? Just checking to make sure I did not miss something.

Thanks. Great site!
Tom

A. Yes, the locations are different. The X VIN code is a 4.0 liter EFI-OHV, six cylinder used in the Explorer and Ranger. VIN code E is a 4.0 liter EFI-SOHC, six cylinder used in the Explorer and Mountaineer.
