Nissan Maxima Got The Buzz

Q. I have a 1997 Nissan Maxima SE. Recently I have noticed a buzzing noise that I guess it comes from the Instrument panel (speedometer). I hear the noise when speed is from 60-80mph. What may cause the noise? Is it easy to fix? What is the cost? Could it be temperature dependent since I did not have this problem during summer?

Regards,
Reza

A. Maxima's did have a problem with the speedometer cables causing a buzzing noise, the faster the car was going, the louder the buzzing. Only problem is, your car doesn't have a speedometer cable. It has an electronic speed sensor. Now, not having heard the buzzing, it could be a piece of plastic vibrating. This can be time consuming to find because the vibration could be coming from anywhere. The sound has a tendency to travel through the dash.

When you are at speed and the noise appears, try grabbing the cluster and the bezel around it and see if you can feel it. You can also try taking strips of cardboard and sticking them between the plastic pieces and see if you can isolate it that way. I kind of doubt it's something mechanically wrong with a dash component.
