Intrepid DTCs
Q. Vincent, I am hoping to get a little information before I move forward on my car repairs. The check engine light just came on in my Dodge Intrepid (1996 SE, 3.5 liter engine, 85,000 miles). So I ran the codes on it and came up with a few MIL codes (12, 42, and 66). According to the Chilton repair manual the codes are:
(12) Direct battery input to PCM was disconnected within the last 50 key-on cycles.
(42) An open condition detected in the ASD relay output circuit.
(66) No messages received from the Transmission Control Module - or- No messages received from the Body Control ModuleI am assuming code 12 is no big deal. As for the other codes, do you have any comments? The car seems to be running fine. I would just like to get some info before I bring the car in.
Thank you very much.
EricA. You're right, code 12 is no big deal. That just means the battery was disconnected less then 50 key starts ago.
Code 42 can mean a bad ASD relay or fuel pump relay, actually both are part of the same relay. It can also mean there is a problem in the wiring for those circuits.
Code 66 means that somewhere along the line information was not passed along the CCD bus that facilitates communications between all the control modules.
42 and 66 are related in that the ASD circuit was open and did not send any data to the BCM. I think if you replace the ASD relay that will fix the problem.
Before you do that however, I would clear the codes, drive the car and see if the codes reset. If they do then you have confirmation you do, indeed, have a problem.
