Isuzu Trooper Blows A/C Fuses
Q. Vince, I have a 1995 Isuzu Trooper 3.2 liter SOHC. My A/C is not working. I checked the fuse and it was blown so I replaced it. The A/C came on for a couple of minutes blowing cold air and then the fuse blew again. Also when I start the engine I get a short squeal and then it goes away.
I was wondering if one of those kits at Walmart that check and add oil to the system would help or is my compressor completely gone.
Thanks,
BryanA. Nope, those kits will do you no good. In fact, I don't feel they should even be sold. In the hands of an inexperienced individual, they will more than likely do more harm than good. The fact that it does come on, however briefly, and puts out cold air indicates the freon level is correct.
If the fuse is blowing, then there is a problem in the A/C electrical circuit. I would try unplugging the A/C compressor and turn the system ON. If the fuse doesn't blow, then the problem is with the A/C compressor or the A/C compressor clutch.
If the fuse still blows with the A/C compressor unplugged, then the short is elsewhere in the system. You will need a wiring diagram to track it down.
