More Mercury Marquis Power Windows

Q. Dear Mr. Ciulla, I read your answer about replacing the window regulator and motor on a 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis. Mercury Marquis Power Windows It supplied me with valuable information, especially what to do about those pesky rivets. I have the same problem with my 1993 Grand Marquis. The motors are fine but the clip on the window which holds the cable(s) is broken, hence the cable came loose and got tangled up.

I read your directions but I can't get the door glass out. The door glass is attached to the part of the regulator that slides up and down with some rivets.

Your directions in the beginning are as follows:

  1. Remove door armrest, door trim panel and water shield.
  2. Remove door glass.
  3. Disconnect power motor.

There has to be a few steps missing here. You can't remove (or at least I can't remove) the door glass just by taking off the interior door panel and water shield. I also removed the window guides or weather stripping at the base of the window opening that run horizontally, and still could not remove the glass.

Any help you could give would be much appreciated. I have three bad regulators (LF, RF, RR) and not looking forward to paying the dealership if I can do it myself.

Best Regards,
Jim

A. Yes, there is one other step. You need to remove the two nuts attaching the window to the window regulator.

So it would be:

  1. Remove two window attaching nuts and remove window.

Sorry for the confusion.
