Dakota Transmission Filter
Q. Hi Vince, I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota and I'm wanting to do some PM work on it. I'd like to change the automatic transmission fluid and filter and I was wondering if you could give me some insight. As to how hard of job this is, is there any hidden springs inside the pan to concern me, and if I should consider flushing the transmission when I do this.
You have been great help in past. Keep the good advice coming.
Thanks,
WayneA. No special tricks or anything. Just drop the transmission pan, spill transmission fluid all over yourself, change the filter and put the pan with a new gasket back on. Fill it up with Mopar ATF Plus 3, Type 7176. I highly recommend using this exact fluid. Other fluids may effect transmission performance.
Then go into the house and let the wife yell at you for making such a mess.
