Hyundai Sonata Deployed Air Bags

Q. Hi I'm Dennis. I have a 1997 Hyundai Sonata, it is a V-6. The car was in a front end collision both air bags deployed. There was no damage to the engine other than the radiator and a cut spark plug wire. I can not get the engine to start, it appears as though there is no spark. Is there a reset or lockout connected to the air bags?

The fuel pump starts with the ignition switch. The engine turns over but will not start. Can you help? Anything that I could try would be a help.

Thank you, Dennis

A. I know that after firing the airbags once, the Supplemental Restraint System Control Module (SRSCM) cannot be used again and must be replaced. Now I'm not sure if this will keep the vehicle from starting. I do know there is no reset switch for the Air Bag System (SRS).

I would check the fuses and fusible links to see if any are blown. That may indicate where the problem lies. Checking for DTCs would also be a good idea. One of the vehicle sensors may have gotten damaged in the collision.
