Stuck Key

Q. Hello! My son has a 1992 Nissan Maxima and I was reading your site about the guy with the Altima that couldn't get his gear shift into gear...so I thought I would ask you a similar question, my son can't get the key out of the ignition, he has tried everything and it will not come out. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Jill

A. I've seen this happen before. The linkage for the release button falls apart and it won't let the key turn to the full off position or if it does, it jams the key in.

About all you can do is remove the ignition switch and replace it. When you get the new one, take it and the old one to a locksmith and he can take the old one apart and remove the key and then he can rekey the new one to use the same key.
