Ford Ranger Maintenance Schedule
Q. Hi Vincent, I have a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT. I get an oil change and they check my fluids every 3,000 miles. I keep it washed and waxed. If they say to repair something I get it done. Is there anything else I need to be doing to maintain my vehicle and keep it running in good condition? I have good tires.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to help us with our vehicles.
A. It sounds like you're doing a good job of taking care of it as it is. If you look in the maintenance book that came with the vehicle, it will outline what needs to be done and when. If you don't have one, you can get one at the Ford Dealer.
If you drive what is called "Severe Service" you should cut the intervals under "Normal Service" in half. For example, tire rotations and oil and filter changes at 3,000 miles instead of 5,000 miles.
The term "Severe Service" is defined as operating the vehicle under any of the following conditions:
- Frequent short trips driving less than 5 miles
- Frequent driving in dusty conditions
- Extensive idling
- Trailer towing
- Sustained high speed operation
- Off road driving
- Desert operation
- Frequent starting and stopping
- Cold climate operation
- Short trip operation at freezing temperatures (engine not thoroughly warmed up)
- Commercial service
- Stop and go driving
