Taurus Window Won't Go Up
Q. Hi Vince, I hope you can help me. My 1997 Ford Taurus wagon drivers window won't come back up. I tried running the engine and pressing the up button for over five seconds, nothing happens. How do I remove the door panel so I can check the motor? Should I check the relay? How does the relay come out to be checked/replaced?
Thanks for your help in this matter.
Very Happy Taurus Owner,
EugeneA. Okay, first do this. With the door open, key on and engine off, try raising the window. Look at the dome light and if it dims out, you have a bad window motor. If it doesn't, then you have an electrical problem.
You can try the power window relay first. It is located in the dash fuse box. Number 38 in the picture. Fuse number 33 is power to the power windows. If these check out okay, then I would look at the switch and the wiring from the switch to the window motor.

If it is the motor, then it will have to be replaced. Remove the cover behind the inside door handle and remove the plug button from the bottom of the pull cup. Take the screws out and remove the speaker grille. Now, starting at the bottom of the trim panel, carefully pull the trim panel off. There are a series of plastic clips around the outside of the trim panel. If any break while taking the panel off, just replace them. Now some of these panels have a hook that grabs the door. To disengage this hook lift the door panel up against the door then remove it.
Once the trim panel is off, you will see the window regulator. Remove the three screws holding it in and take it out. Change the motor and reinstall everything.
