Injector Cleaning

Q. I recently bought my neighbors 1987 Ford F-150 300 6 cylinder stick shift. It is an XLT with about 119,000 miles. The problem I am having is it sat for 3 to 4 years. I drained all the fuel and It will try to start. I think I need to clean the fuel injectors. That to me seems to be the problem, but the Chilton manual that I have doesn't tell me how to do this.

Everybody can tell me if it is running, but it is not. I am so close to getting it to idle. Can you please give me any advice???? I really appreciate any advice you give me.

Thanks again...

A. The only way to clean injectors on a car that won't run is to remove them and have them cleaned at a shop that has an off car cleaner.

One thing you might want to try is to remove a small vacuum line on the intake manifold a spray in a quick shot of carburetor cleaner through the vacuum fitting. Start the truck and let it run. Every time it starts to stall, give it another shot of carburetor cleaner. In effect, it will be running on the carburetor cleaner and it may give the injector cleaner time to do enough work so the engine will run on it's own.
