Keeping The Rain Out
Q. Hi Vince, I enjoyed your comments on car care - very important. Perhaps you can direct me to a site or suggested a remedy for a problem with rain coming in the drivers side window (yes, when the window is open and it is raining)!
I just bought a Nissan Altima, nice car, very streamlined. I love to drive with the window open a crack, even if it is raining, just to allow fresh air in and more importantly to hear for signs of trouble in traffic. Believe me, in some of these newer cars, you couldn't hear the squeal of the brakes of the car behind you.
On older cars, the rain doesn't come in; on the highway, the wind shears the rain off and you stay dry. But on the newer models (including my last Camry), they are so streamlined (for fuel efficiency I guess) that the rain actually pours in, even if I am doing 60 miles per hour.
Is there a V-strip of something I could tape just over the driver's side door that would direct the rain away and behind?
Thanks muchly,
Wet-Behind-the-ears,
JimA. You're a man after my own heart. I, too, like to drive with the window open a crack no matter what the weather just for the fresh air.
I used to work in a chain auto store in New Jersey and we used to sell a product called "Vent Shades". What it was is a metal shade that attached under the window weather strip to keep rain out while the window was open. It sort of deflected the rain away from the window and kept it from coming in.
